Here’s a quick overview of the upcoming new features and functionality in 2023 Wave 1 release:

Business Central 2023 Wave 1

Microsoft has published comprehensive release information regarding the 2023 release wave 1 plan, including a Preview feature for item journals before posting.

Currently, users can use the Preview Posting button on specific documents and journals to review the different types of entries that will be created upon posting.

This feature provides a valuable opportunity to identify and rectify any errors before finalizing the posting process.

For example, On the Sales Order:

Business Central 2023 Wave 1 - Sales order

On the General Journals:

The Posting Preview page offers a range of useful features for users.

By clicking on the No. of Entries value, users can see specific entries that are about to be posted.

Additionally, users can highlight the Related Entries line and select Show Related Entries. Prior to the 2023 Release Wave 1, users may have noticed the lack of a preview posting feature for item-related postings.

This was inconvenient for users who needed to audit transactions before posting.

However, the new Posting Preview feature for item-related postings, set to be introduced in the 2023 Release Wave 1, promises to alleviate these issues and provide greater efficiency and accuracy in business operations.

For example, previously on the Transfer Order:

And, on the Item Journals:

This will all change in 2023 Release Wave 1, the next major version.

When you post item journals or other warehouse documents, such as inventory picks and put-aways and warehouse shipments and receipts, you create different types of G/L entries. The following are examples:

  • Item entries
  • G/L entries
  • Value entries
  • Warehouse entries

To avoid mistakes upfront, use the Preview Posting action on journals and documents to review the types of entries that you’ll create before you post them.
